Evan Marcus, MA, LPC is a licensed professional counselor based at the CalmOCD Tucson office. He provides in-person and telehealth services in the Tucson area, as well as telehealth care throughout Arizona. He offers psychotherapy to adults, adolescents, and children living with OCD, obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, anxiety, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and tic disorders.
Evan feels thankful to have the opportunity to work with CalmOCD clients. He believes it is crucial for therapists to have a thorough understanding of OCD, its subtypes, OCRDs, and other co-morbid conditions that many individuals with OCD experience. Whether in one-on-one therapy or more intensive IOPs, Evan takes the time to understand how clients’ conditions impact their day-to-day lives, relationships, schooling, work, home life, and overall happiness.
He also helps clients better understand their obsessions, compulsions, and other mental health symptoms. From the start of therapy, Evan collaborates with clients to create treatment plans geared toward decreasing compulsions and building resilience in their ability to manage uncomfortable emotions. When working with families, he partners with parents to develop strategies that modify parental behavior while utilizing techniques recommended by the SPACE modality.
Evan has seventeen years of experience working with adults and children dealing with a variety of mental health issues and neurological disorders. His therapeutic approach is person-centered. He believes clients have their own answers for leading happier, more fulfilling lives, and his role is to help them recognize their strengths. He uses a variety of modalities, including Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), as well as Strengths-Based Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Evan received his undergraduate degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music. He holds a master’s degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University (2009) and a master’s degree in Healthcare Leadership from Brown University (2021). He also recently completed a post-master’s certificate program through NYU in Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice.
He is dedicated to making a difference for individuals struggling with OCD, ADHD, ASD, Tourette syndrome, and other obsessive-compulsive and related disorders. He has seen firsthand how these conditions impact overall mental health and well-being. While he enjoys working with clients of all ages, he is especially passionate about helping children, adolescents, and families.
Evan is originally from Boston and grew up outside of Chicago. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, family, and friends, as well as playing guitar and tennis. He feels extremely fortunate to work with CalmOCD, as the practice provides unique and specialized care for this population in Arizona and across the country.
