I provide evidence-based care for OCD and related conditions.
Claire Griese, LPC, is a licensed professional counselor providing in-person and virtual therapy in Scottsdale, Arizona, and statewide, plus virtual therapy in Mississippi.
She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling & Behavioral Medicine from the Boston University School of Medicine. She brings over six years of experience treating adolescents and adults with a wide range of mental health concerns in partial hospitalization programs, schools, university clinics, and outpatient private practice settings.
Claire is passionate about treating OCD and co-occurring eating disorders, as well as anxiety disorders. She also specializes in trauma treatment and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She strives to create a safe and comfortable space in which her clients can untangle life’s struggles and any resulting patterns that are no longer serving them. Her hope is for all of her clients to learn skills to empower them to take charge of their own wellness in order to gain the freedom to live a fulfilling life as their genuine selves.
Within OCD, Claire has a particular interest in relationship, scrupulosity, responsibility, contamination, “Just Right,” and perfectionism subtypes of OCD. She especially enjoys helping clients navigate uncertainty, the desire for control, reassurance seeking, avoidance, self-criticism, and shame.
Claire takes an integrative, evidence-based approach to treatment, drawing from DBT, ACT, CBT, IFS, Self-Compassion techniques, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Within all of these modalities, Claire always highlights the importance of client choice in engaging in each intervention or technique, particularly with those who have experienced trauma.
Claire’s favorite part of therapy is witnessing the moment when the therapy work “clicks,” as this moment comes with clients gaining confidence in themselves and hope for the future.
Outside of therapy, Claire enjoys reading, thrifting, antiquing, running, gardening, and spending time with her dog, Penny.
