Janis is a compassionate and experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with a rich background in health care and especially mental health. Her professional and educational journey has helped her become a dedicated therapist and an advocate for mental well-being as illustrated with a Master in Social Work obtained through Widener University.
Throughout her clinical career, Janis has accumulated diverse and extensive experiences in the mental health field. Her areas of experience span a wide range including a focus on anxiety, as well as depression, trauma, ADHD and addiction and recovery.
Of particular interest to Janis throughout her career has been up-to-date and evidence-based knowledge of the implications and treatment of OCD. It is her belief that arming individuals with accurate, understandable, and relevant information about OCD provides hope for a healthy future and ultimately success throughout the treatment process. Janis is comfortable working with all subtypes of OCD, being particularly drawn to Harm OCD, Scrupulosity/Religious OCD and Relationship OCD. Janis has experience in treating Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors and helping individuals navigate the associated complexities.
Janis has worked with individuals across the lifespan, from children, adolescents, and their parents, to adults and couples. Her therapeutic approach is both dynamic and holistic reflecting her comprehensive training and deep empathy for her patients. Janis’s favorite population to treat is the one right in front of her at the time.
In her clinical practice, she draws from an array of therapeutic modalities, and tailors her approach to meet the unique needs of those she serves. Her toolkit includes evidenced-based models such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention therapy), Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), and play and sand-based interventions. This versatility ensures her patients can receive effective and personalized treatment while they are developing healthy relationships with all their emotions.

Janis grew up in Ontario, Canada where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master in Health Administration. After spending many years in Illinois, Janis and her family moved to Utah where they have enjoyed all it has had to offer including hiking and the performing arts. Janis enjoys playing the piano, walking her dog, baking, reading, and most recently has tried her hand at gardening.
At CalmOCD we treat individuals ages 5 and up with obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, eating disorders, panic disorder, agoraphobia, phobias, misophonia, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), and co-occurring depression.
